Surrounded by the George Washington National Forest and the two ridges of the Massanutten Mountain, Fort Valley offers access to numerous trails for hikers of all levels. Trail maps are available at the store.
Massanutten Story Book Trail is located off Crisman Hollow Road, south of the store. This boardwalk trail is completely wheelchair accessible. Along the path that leads to a stunning view of the Shenandoah Valley and Skyline Drive, displays show the geological history of this mountain that was once an underwater sea.
Lion's Tale Trail is also located off Crisman Hollow Road. This unique trail is designed for the visually impaired and all others who wish to experience the forest with all of their senses.
Woodstock Tower trail is just a few miles from the store up the Woodstock Tower Road. A short hike will take you to this old watch tower with a spectacular view of the Seven Bends of the Shenandoah River.
Elizabeth Furnace Recreation Area is located about 9 miles north of the store in the George Washington National Forest. This area provides a full campground, a group campground, and a picnic area.
Powell's Little Fort is a smaller, more rustic campground with just 11 sites located just up the Tower Road from the store.
Camp Roosevelt Recreation Area is located about 7 miles south of the store. This rustic campground is the site of Camp Roosevelt, the first Civilian Conservation Corps, or CCC, Camp.
